Jeep Compass vs. Jeep Grand Cherokee: What You Need to Know

2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee When comparing the Jeep Compass with the Jeep Grand Cherokee, you have to look at each vehicles’ unique features. Here is a comparison of the Grand Cherokee and Compass.

Size

Size can be very important when buying a new vehicle. The Jeep Compass is a compact crossover while the Jeep Grand Cherokee is a mid-size SUV. If you look at the size comparisons, the Compass is 173 inches in length, compared to the 189.8 inches of the Grand Cherokee.
The Compass’s smaller size makes it easier to drive in the city, and it also gets better mileage. The Compass gets 23 miles per gallon in the city and 32 miles per gallon on the highway and starts at $21,095.
As the Grand Cherokee is larger than the Compass, it gets 18 miles per gallon in the city and 25 miles per gallon on the highway. But, it has more room for passengers and cargo, so if you plan on filling up your vehicle with gear and people, you may want to opt for the larger option. The Grand Cherokee starts at $30,895.

Performance

When buying a Jeep, you expect high-end performance. Both the Compass and Grand Cherokee have Trail-Rated badges. The Grand Cherokee has a number of trim options that are Trail Rated, while the Compass only has one trim, the Trailhawk, that meets the high-performance standard for off-roading.
In order to qualify as Trail Rated, the trims must be able to meet standards in traction, water fording, maneuverability, articulation, and ground clearance. The Compass meets these standards with the Trailhawk by using an Active Drive Low 4×4 System and Selec-Terrain Traction Management System, which lets you set the terrain you are driving in for maximum traction abilities. Terrains include snow, sand, auto, mud, or rock.
The Grand Cherokee Trailhawk uses a Quadra-Drive II 4×4 System, which is the most advanced 4×4 system available through Jeep. Other 4×4 systems available include the Quadra-Trac I and Quadra-Trac II 4×4 Systems, which also provides excellent 4×4 capabilities. The trims combine the Selec-Terrain Management System with one of the three 4×4 systems for maximum off-roading performance.
Between the two models, both have excellent performance, but the Grand Cherokee offers a wider range of options for anyone looking to do some serious off-roading.

Safety

Safety features that are available with the Grand Cherokee include Full Speed Forward Collision Warning Plus, LaneSense Departure Warning Plus, and Parallel and Perpendicular Park-Assist. The Compass has LaneSense Departure Warning and a ParkSense Rear Park-Assist System. Both models also have Blind-Spot and Cross-Path Detection and a ParkView Rear Back Up Camera.
Both vehicles offer quality safety features, but if you are looking for a vehicle that goes the extra mile on safety, you may want the Grand Cherokee.
