The 2023 Ram 1500 has many desirable features, from impressive powertrain options to bed and cab configurations and even unique towing features. You want to get the most out of your Ram 1500, so we recommend you take some time to understand how your truck works. To help, we had our pickup experts review the best features of the Ram 1500, so you can tow more effectively, enjoy off-road adventures, or cruise in style.

Multiple factors come into play when you assess a vehicle’s performance. For starters, your engine has the most significant impact on performance. Fortunately, you have four engine options for the Ram 1500. The base model has a 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 with eTorque. This mild hybrid system increases torque and horsepower while improving efficiency with advanced technologies such as a two-step variable valve lift system and a wide-range variable valve timing system.

As a result, this engine makes 305 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque and tows up to 7,730 pounds. This powertrain makes perfect sense for drivers with light-duty needs like towing their bass boat or camper to the lake, or the occasional furniture move, lawn cleanup, etc.

For more power, you can opt for the 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine with eTorque. This engine delivers an impressive 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque, and a 12,750-pound towing capacity. A Ram 1500 with this engine can handle your worksite duties, tow heavier loads, and haul tools and equipment.

A 3.0-liter turbo-diesel engine option provides exceptional torque. The EcoDiesel V-6 puts out 260 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque and tows 9,700 pounds. Diesel efficiency makes this powertrain perfect for longer towing jobs, with a 950-mile driving range on a single tank.

If street style combined with power makes your heart race, the Ram 1500 TRX offers a supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V-8 engine. This power plant pumps out 702 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque, achieving a top speed of 118 mph. In addition, the TRX travels from zero-60 mph in only 4.5 seconds, making it one of the fastest production trucks in the world.

2023 Ram 1500 Towing Systems

Your Ram 1500 has an array of advanced technologies designed to make towing simple and efficient. For example, you can opt for the Trailer Reverse Steering Control system. The TRSC lets you control which direction the trailer turns by turning a knob on your center stack to the side you want your trailer to move.

An available Active-Level Four Corner Air Suspension system allows you to raise or lower your truck height, making hitching your trailer simple. This system also reduces drag at highway speeds and enables passengers to get in and out of the cab easier.

You can take advantage of Ram’s Trailer Surround View (TSV) system, which uses multiple cameras to render an overhead image of your truck and trailer. The TSV lets you spot objects you might not otherwise see without a camera.

2023 Ram 1500 Off-Road Equipment

If you love an excellent off-road excursion, we recommend the Ram 1500 Rebel model, as it comes with a standard 4×4 and a package of equipment designed specifically for the trail. In addition, you get an additional one-inch raised ride height, a factory suspension lift, 33-inch off-road tires, and performance-tuned shock absorbers to tackle the most challenging terrain.

The Rebel trim also comes standard with the Selec-Speed Control system, and you can add this system to other models equipped with a 4×4 drivetrain. Selec-Speed Control helps your Ram 1500 traverse variations in slope by maintaining a consistent speed through automatic throttle and braking, letting you focus on steering.

2023 Ram 1500 Technology

Various standard technologies installed in the Ram 1500 are designed to elevate your driving experience. For example, a new digital display cluster provides full-color 3D graphics on the screen. And you can customize what you see, from turn-by-turn navigation to vehicle diagnostics, gauge information, and current suspension and steering dynamics. You also get a head-up display that projects critical driving data to the windshield before you, like road signs, incoming calls, and speed.

An available 12-inch touchscreen powered by the U-Connect 5 system has pinch-zoom capability and physical controls for critical features. Built-in TomTom navigation gets you to your destination with stunning 3D graphics. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto let you synch your smartphone to make calls, access your favorite apps, and more. Plus, you have a voice recognition system that activates with a preset wake-up word or by pressing the button on the steering wheel. So now, you can use simple, intuitive voice commands to operate your favorite features.

Ram gives you an intelligent key fob capable of remote keyless entry and has a power tailgate release button to lower your tailgate hands-free. And your key fob has a bed-lowering control that lowers your suspension to load and access your gear more easily. In addition, wireless charging and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot keep you powered up and connected no matter where your next adventure leads you.

2023 Ram 1500 Driver-Assist Technology

Every Ram 1500 comes with a suite of standard and available driver-assist systems. For example, you can opt for the Forward Collision Warning with Active Braking system that alerts you to objects in your path ahead. Sometimes, the system uses emergency brake support to help you stop.

A Rear Cross Path Detection system uses sensors to pick up vehicles and pedestrians crossing behind your Ram 1500 while in reverse. In addition, you can add the Parallel and Perpendicular Park Assist system to further aid you in navigating tight parking spots. This system automatically steers your Ram 1500 into the parking space while you follow instructions to throttle and brake.
