Dallas is a city filled with people who love dogs — at least that’s the impression you’ll get, considering how many attractions cater to our four-legged, furry friends and their owners. In this city, you can spend a whole day out and about, having fun with your pup. From parks, where they can play, to dog-friendly attractions, restaurants, and bakeries specializing in dog treats, there’s no end to options. Here are just a few of our favorites.
Wagging Tail Dog Park
Dallas is home to no fewer than 10 parks dedicated to dogs, as well as plenty more where dogs are welcome. The Wagging Tail Dog Park, located at 5841 Keller Springs Road, offers 7 acres of fun. It’s open from 5 a.m.-11 p.m. six days a week but closed on Mondays and rainy days. The park offers 5 acres of trails and lawns where your pup can frolic, and separate play areas for large and small dogs to play safely. There’s a paved walking trail, shaded areas, and benches for you to rest.
Your pup must be on a leash when he or she’s not in a designated off-leash play area and must be able to play well with others. Vaccinations and license must be current. Drinking water’s available for both pups and people.
White Rock Lake Park
Within White Rock Lake is an enclosed, specialized dog park. It covers 3 acres and was recently renovated. There’s a separate area for large and small dogs, along with drinking water and dog wash facilities. Lots of trees provide shade, and perhaps the best part of the park is the launch spot, where your pup can jump in the lake to cool off and play. Outside of the dog park area, dogs are still welcome on-leash. The two of you can enjoy a 9.3-mile hiking and biking trail, picnic areas and pavilions, and the Dallas Arboretum.
White Rock Lake Park is located approximately 8 miles northeast of downtown Dallas on Mockingbird Lane and is closed on rainy days and Mondays for maintenance.
Mutts Canine Cantina
In the heart of Dallas, at 2889 CityPlace W. Blvd., you’ll find Mutts Canine Cantina, a unique concept where both pups and their families can dine and relax. The menu includes a selection of burgers and hot dogs, ice cream, and snacks, and they also provide a “doggie dog” and dessert custard for Fluffy. You can drink there, too. They serve a rotating selection of local craft beers and have an extensive wine list. Mutts offers a yearly or monthly membership to their dog park, with day passes available. There, your pups can run around safely off-leash.
You can play with them, or if you need a break, attendants can look after them for a bit while you’re in the café enjoying a cold brew. Be sure to check out the events calendar for “Yappy Hour” and “Downward Dog Yoga,” or celebrate your pup’s birthday with a “Pawty” package.
Dallas is friendly to dogs in other places, too, such as many other restaurants, shops, and hotels. Grab your best friend and his or her favorite leash, and head out to explore what Dallas has to offer for you both.
